TAIPEI -- Motorola is expected to award the production of its Motofone cellphone to
Foxconn, according to various media reports.
Motorola plans to launch the model late this year.
According to a report in the
Taiwan Economic News, insiders claim that the first orders for the model will be built at Motorola's plant in Tianjin, China,
and at
Flextronics. Foxconn is expected be added as demand ramps.
The source said Motorola has reportedly ramped its ordered
volume to 100 million units per year from 40 million to 50 million
previously.
Foxconn already builds Motorola's KRZR K1 and RAZR handsets -- reportedly 20 million units per quarter of the latter.
