BANNOCKBURN, IL – Total North American electronics manufacturing shipments in January were up 9.7% compared to the same month last year. Sequentially, January shipments fell 6.4%, says IPC.
EMS orders for January were down 5.4% year-over-year but increased 10.2% compared to the prior month.
The book-to-bill ratio stands at 1.18. A ratio of more than one suggests current demand is ahead of supply, which is a positive indicator for sales growth over the next three to 12 months.
“The EMS sector carried last year's momentum into 2021,” said Shawn DuBravac, IPC’s chief economist. “Strong January orders should help drive shipments in the coming month.”
