CHENNAI, INDIA -- Inventec plans to launch production here later this year, the company is reportedly telling various media. 

According to reports, the ODM will lease a factory here, and production will begin by mid to late summer.

Reports indicate the company plans to buidl smartphones at the site, but Inventec has declined to comment.

The news comes on the heels of a much-publicized decision by Inventec rival Foxconn to shutter its Nokia-driven operations here, a move that has led to mass protests by displaced workers.
