Indium Corporation’s Brian O’Leary, global head of e-Mobility and infrastructure, will participate in two panel discussions on the charging-related reliability challenges in the e-Mobility market at the Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo (co-located with The Battery Show North America) from Sept. 13-15 in Novi, Michigan, US.
“The automotive industry is going through the biggest change its seen in decades and is being turned on its head,” O’Leary said. “From supply chain, regulators’ ability to keep up within areas including autonomy, to the very standards we use in manufacturing. I hope my upcoming participation, as well as the ongoing work of the IPC’s e-Mobility Quality & Reliability Advisory Group, sheds light on important reliability issues for the e-Mobility industry going forward.”
In the panel, Building Quality, Reliability & Safety for E-mobility – A Case for EVs and Charging on Wednesday, Sept. 14, O’Leary brings together expert members of the IPC’s e-Mobility council representing both original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and their suppliers. In this panel, they will discuss the challenges of building safe, high-quality, and reliable EVs and their chargers.
Panel members include O’Leary, who currently serves as the chair of the IPC’s e-Mobility council and helped organized its formation; Nello Li Pira, global R&I materials manager of CRF (Stellantis); Cory Bullis, senior public affairs manager, U.S. at FLO EV Charging; and Matt Kelly, chief technologist, IPC.
In his panel on Thursday, Sept. 15, O’Leary and guests will give attendees an overview of the state of public charging infrastructure in the U.S. In US Charging 2.0: Reviving Our Public Charging Infrastructure, they will discuss the country’s “failing grade” in charging. With a large number of non-functional chargers, market potential for EV adoption is slow and government regulation or intervention is imminent. However, a combination of improvements can dramatically drive performance, longevity, and reliability. He will be joined by Bullis; Brian Chislea, TS&D scientist at Dow Consumer Solutions; and Debbie Carboni, global product manager at KYZEN Corporation.
O’Leary is responsible for promoting Indium Corporation’s full range of products and services for e-Mobility, which include the markets for EVs, charging stations, and infrastructure, among others. He joined Indium Corporation in 2014 and has more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing, and channel management in the electronics industry. He earned his master’s degree in international management at the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University, Phoenix, AZ. He also co-authored two books on thermal profiling: Profiling Guide for Profitability and Profiling Guide for Six Sigma.

Indium Corporation senior area technical manager, Jason Chou, will present on low-temperature solders at SEMICON Taiwan’s TechXPOT on Thursday, Sept. 15, in Taipei, Taiwan.
In Lead-Free Low-Temperature Solder Paste for Drop Shock Critical Applications, Chou will focus on Durafuse™ LT, a patented low-temperature alloy system designed to provide high-reliability in low-temperature applications that require a reflow temperature below 210°C. The innovative material provides improved drop shock resilience, outclassing bismuth-tin (BiSn) or bismuth-tin-silver (BiSnAg) alloys, and performing better than SAC305 with optimum process setup. Durafuse™ LT is the only existing solution that ensures reliability with low-temperature requirements and is ideal for customers seeking low-temperature solder paste to address warpage issues, step soldering, and reduced energy consumption.
His Chinese-language presentation is scheduled for 10:10 a.m.–10:40 a.m. local time at booth #I2026, in the Innovative Technology and Product category. As senior area technical manager in Taiwan, Chou provides technical support to customers with a focus on the semiconductor industry. He has 10 years of industry experience, including specialization in front-end wafer fabrication processes, thin-film modules, and defect analysis for wafer metrology. Chou earned a master’s degree in Chemistry from National Tsing Hua University and a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from National Cheng Kung University. He served as the group leader for the National Nano Device Laboratory, Tainan, Taiwan, where he collaborated with university professors and industry professionals on special projects for semiconductor manufacturing.

The 2-day technology event will allow electronics manufacturers the opportunity to understand emerging technology within the sector and the processes that will help to improve production. With 12 speakers lined up to present, including big names in the industry like Fuji, Koh Young, Heller, LPKF, Essemtec, Asscon, YJ Link and Lazpiur, and over 20 machines on display, the technology day will benefit all those attending.
Joe Booth, Altus CEO said: “We are delighted to launch this brand-new Factory of the Future event in partnership with Fuji. It will give our customers and prospects the chance to visit the MTC and absorb what is a superb speaker and machine line-up.
“The market is in a great place with investment and process improvement ideas, but for many over the last period, it has been difficult getting hands on time and the opportunity to learn what is new. We hope that this event will allow people to learn more about industry hot topics, understand established solutions and experience the innovative new equipment in action.”
Jonas Ernst, Assistant General Manager, Fuji added: “The event looks like it will be a great showcase for the industry to see the best-in-class technology in action. Alongside Altus Group, there isn’t a production process that is not covered across the two days. We at Fuji are excited to present the very latest in our hardware offerings and software capabilities, but more importantly, connect with our existing customers and prospective users at a great period for UK and Irish investment.”
The Factory of the Future event will be hosted by senior experts at Altus and Fuji. It will include a number of key speakers covering everything from 3D inspection data and AI for automatic process improvement, to the latest developments in vapour phase soldering and the all-important topic of reshoring production to Europe.
“Working in partnership with Fuji has enabled us to pull together a really impressive event that will allow attendees the opportunity to find out the latest information to improve manufacturing processes and explore the latest technology. It will ultimately provide a platform for those interested in turnkey solutions to boost productivity.
“Together with Fuji we look forward to welcoming delegates from across the UK and Ireland.”

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y., Aug. 11, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Orbit International Corp. (OTC PINK:ORBT), an electronics manufacturer and software solution provider, today announced that its Electronics Group (“OEG”) received a new order in the month of August 2022 in excess of $1,200,000. Deliveries for this order are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2023 and continue through the second quarter of 2024.
Mitchell Binder, President and CEO of Orbit International commented, “This new order for our OEG, in excess of $1,200,000, is from a major defense contractor for a significant program for the U.S. Navy.
In addition, the customer has requested proposals for three follow-on orders for each year of 2023-2025 which, if awarded, would total in excess of $3,500,000. However, these potential future awards could be modified subject to the U.S. Navy changing its requirements. Timing of the awards is also an uncertainty.”
Binder added, “Despite this significant award, our OEG and Orbit Power Group (“OPG”) are experiencing delays in the awards of contracts on key programs. Several factors are causing delays on these awards, which are coming from the Department of Defense (“DoD”), including work restrictions related to the pandemic, a shifting of prioritization of certain contract awards from the DoD and funding issues due to increased prices. It should be noted that timing uncertainty in the receipt of contracts from our prime contractors doing business with the U.S government is an inherent factor in our industry. As in the past, although timing remains an uncertainty, we expect these contract awards to eventually be received.”
Orbit International Corp., through its Electronics Group, is involved in the development and manufacture of custom electronic device and subsystem solutions for military, industrial and commercial applications through its production facilities in Hauppauge, NY and Carson, CA. Orbit’s Power Group, also located in Hauppauge, NY, designs and manufactures a wide array of power products including AC power supplies, frequency converters, inverters, VME/VPX power supplies as well as various COTS power sources.
